If it's fuel economy you're looking for, you may want to look at swapping in a 5.0 with fuel injection along with a 5-speed manual or automatic overdrive.
I doubt the 351C would give much better fuel economy than the 428. I've seen several modern 5.0's putting out 20+ mpg, though.
Another thing to consider is the final drive ratio. The modern cars get a lot of their fuel economy with overdrive tranny's. If you were to swap your trans for an automagic overdrive, you'd probably get 3 or 4 mpg from that. If you did a Tremec, you may get 5 mpg, especially if you went with taller rearend gears (the Tremec has a pretty low first gear).
The standard Tremec is about $1400, and I think it has the same input shaft as a small input toploader. |
