Thanks for the suggestions and advice. I've been thinking about it quite a lot. The heads are true out of the box NOS. The block is standard with the deck being just mildly surfaced for good head gasket mating.

It's definitely the intake that was butchered at some time many years ago. So I'm going to be patient and see what happens with a couple of want ads for a '60 HP intake, and I'd probably be willing to take any single 4 early Ford aluminum intake that had oil fill provision and rear draft tube provision too.

I may even just skip to year two and run the tri power system that is in excellent/complete working order.
