Now differents between blocks/heads. The only thing you need is the 410 pistons and a 428 crank and flywheel or flexplate. You might all ready have the 410 pistons in your 76 truck. some mid 70's truck 390s had 410 pistons to reduce the compression. This was obtained by using the 410 piston do to the difference (SHORTER) between the risk pin and top of the piston. If you use standard 390 pistons with the 428 crank they will smack the heads due to the extra throw of the crank. The 390s were balanced different (Internally)than the 428/410 that's why you have to have the flywheel or flexplate if it's a automatic. |
