| The first GT500(#100) was thought to be a 390 because it ran so slow.Probably a few others slipped in,but very few.Most probably some past owner blew up the engine and it was replaced with a easier to optain and cheaper 390.You can ckeck to see if the ford VIN is on the block (driver side were the head meets the block by the firewall).The letters and numbers you mentioned are date codes. The only sure way to determine if you have a 428 or a 390 is to pull the head and measure the bore,almost all components of a 390 can be used in a 428 and vice versa,so thats why they are so hard to tell apart. Your shelby # is early production not mid. MY advice if you have a 390, change to a 428 and forget it. Good luck with your investication . Bob G. |
