| The rear seal can only be replaced with the crank out of the block. I tried once to install it after I had forgotten about it and already had teh crank in. It just won't slide around in it's groove. When you put the new seal in, use a neoprene or rubber seal vs the old "rope" type seal. Remove the "holding pin" if there was one for the rope seal and discard it. The seal goes in with the lip facing towards the inside of the engine. Install it with one end proud of the block by about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch so the seal joint does not match up with the cap to block joint. You need a small amount of silicon sealant for the end cap and a little patience to install the side seals and "nails". I cut any of the side seal that protrudes "off", but usually it goes in to far (compressed by the nail. Just fill it up with silicon before you install the pan. Anyway, there are usually instrucitons that come with the seal kit. |
