Tranny to Motor

I just rebuilt my 390 (thanks for all the suggestions and help along the way) and my friends and I put the motor back in last night. This morning I realized we forgot to put the bell housing cover between the motor and the C 4. My question is does anyone have any suggestions about how to get that cover on without lifting the motor back out. I though about cutting the cover up the middle and putting each 1/2 around the crank? Dumb idea?
