If you want to do it for better mileage then you probably wouldn't want to bother since the increase would be very slight...maybe a half-mile more at best per gallon. Now, the better your fuel economy, the bigger the mileage increase meaning that if you were getting 28, you may get 30 or more.
A synthetic like Mobil1 does have smaller molecules so it could find an easier path past a seal. If you're engine has no oil leaks anywhere you may be okay. While there are tales of folks who started leaking where they had none before are theoretically possible, I've personally never known anyone who has had that experience. And if your oil control rings are in good shape now, you won't start burning oil by using a synthetic.
I use Mobil1 in my new cars. The mileage is better and the engines run a lot smoother. |
