hydraulic lifters job is maintain zero lash.wenthe engin is not runing the lifters will setal out and all the valves will apear closed . wen the engin is runing the hydrolic action of the lifter maintains the no slack in valve train ie no click click like solids. all the cam companeys have spects for ther liftres as in blead rate some are fast bleaders some are slow the right lifter for the right cam grind and springs is a must but in general hydrolic lifters will blead off if you push on them and pump up fairy quick wen the engine is runing.if your engine lifters chater thay are problie being oil starved ie not enuf oil pres, to maintain the hydrolic action in the lifter to maintain zero lash......
