Hey Chuck, I went through the same thing on my 68 (2528) a little over 2 years ago. I got ahold of the folks at Cam Research. www.camresearchcorp.com. They have a good group of guys that are very knowledgeable about FEs.

At that time they had the best prices on good quality stuff. I got a new flexplate (from Ford), a cam (they have a nice selection of grinds to pick from), a new set of valves (I had a slightly burned exhaust valve) a new set of valve spring and keepers. They also had a selection of torque convertors matched to their cams, although I stuck with my original.
