I'm not sure of the rods, but they sound like the skinny 352/360 jobbies.
You can verify by looking at the crank flange. If it's got both a square notch cutout and a half-circle cutout, then it's a 360. If it's only got the square notch, then it's a 1966-later 390 crank.
The 360 engine got 390-4V pistons to drop the compression. Some were marked "390-4V", other identical pistons were marked "360".
The 390 pickup truck engine got 410 pistons to drop the compression to prevent pinging when hauling heavy loads long distances. Compression for both the 360 and 390 pickup truck engines were around 8.5:1
