Ford 428 FE Engine Identification

Very new to the FE series of engines. Mostly fooled with 289, 302, and 351 engines all my life. I just came into posession of a ford 428 engine, but I do not know this engines history or individual specs. I understand that there were several 428 engines produced with varying options available. I would like to find out how I can positively identify my engine so that I can purchase the propper parts for a complete high-performance restoration. Anyone know where I can find out how to interpret casting numbers or know the difference between the engines by external features? Any and all help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.
