many of the marine engines are made using the sideoiler castings but the passage way is not drilled and then when they machine the motor mount pads they flycut the oil passage area so it could never be made into a real sideoiler. this is not true of all engines and there were some real sideoilers but the odds are against you unfortunately. a non-sideoiler will fetch 2500 in good shape and a side oiler 3000 or so. the real issue is what kind a of cooling system was used on the engine. if raw water was pumped through instead of a closed system, the block may not be salvageable due to rust through from the inside out. also note that not all marine engines are reverse rotation, only about half of them!
