Wouldn't you want to prime the engine with the fresh clean oil before you attempt to start it? This would ensure that all the bearings and such are primed with oil at the initial startup of the engine which is where most of engine wear and damage occur? I am not familiar with Y-blocks but I am assuming that the oil pump can be primed the same way, through the distributor hole?
