Bad timing gears By Dano - 03/28/2004 9:46:12 PM; IP 67.50.228.22 A lot of old FE engines used cheap aluminum timing gears with nylon teeth. It is possible your cam has slipped a few notches and that is causing your poor running condition. I had that happen once with a 390 I had, a few of the nylon gear teeth broke off and it started running very rough.
