You can drop a 390 into it if you slice up the shock towers and remove a section of the steel, but you have to have a machine shop and money at your disposal to do it properly. Alternately, you can remove the shock towers and install a MustangII conversion kit from one of the supply sources.

For the lightweight little 1966 Mustang, it's a bit more fashionable to build a high tech 302 and dress it up like a 289HP for the nostalgia look. Stock shock towers also help retain value in the car, since any mods (outside of temporary engine mods) reduce collector value.
