These days, you can get a toploader built to your specs with no compromises. It isn't cheap, but then quality never is.

I finished installing a David Kee close ratio, big in and out, long tail toploader to replace the C6 in my '67 390 Fairlane a couple months ago. Everything fit like a glove. With no core, it was about $1,700 out the door. He built the trans with one of his new nodular cases. And everything in the trans is new. No used parts at all except for the tail housing. Even though the price seemed a bit steep, I felt I got my money's worth.
