I'm sorry I can't tell you what the engine is, C6ME was used on the 352, 360, 390, and 428 blocks. To tell for sure, you would have to measure the bore and stroke(or at least get the casting numbers off the crank). As far as those little springs, yes, they can and should be replaced. You can either put new springs in or swap them out for solid spacers made out of billet steel or aluminum. Check out DSCmotorsport.com for all kinds of parts.
