A 406 is a 4.13 bore and a 3.78 stroke. Your 390 block may or may not be able to handle this overbore. You can check which wall cores your block has to determine if this is even doable then sonic check. I'd just clean the bores up as needed to keep some meat for future rebuilds. You can pickup a 428 crank for a little more stroke giving you a 410 with the 390 bore. Per Dave Shoe a 17/64" drill bit shank will fit snugly between 390 wall cores and a 13/64" between the 428 wall cores. You can access the wall cores by knocking out the freeze plugs to check. G. |
