The 390GT heads were only different in that they were drilled to accept the small body exhaust manifolds which are among the most restrictive ever built by Ford. Otherwise they are the same heads used on any 352 or 390 that year.
A 390 puts out mountains of torque and is a blast to drive in a small car like a Mustang. Ford did not need to modify the engine because it was already a good performer. The big problem in these cars is traction, the stock size tires were woefully inadequate to handle all the torque.
