Yes, it is definitely a problem. 428s are detroit
balanced 390s are zero balanced which means the
428 flexplate will have a counterweight welded to
it where as the 390 will not. You need to get the correct flexplate. A detroit balance is external
and a zero balance is internal. A 410 Mercury
also shares this balance. 79 and newer 460s are
externally balanced as are 82 and later 302/5.0. |
