No, Brian. An electronic conversion, either optical, hall effect, or magnetic have equivalent results...a more effective trigger. The problem with points is that they couldn't carry much current otherwise they would have an extraordinarily short life. Electronic triggers just do this job with greater consistency and are relatively insensitive to higher primary voltages resulting in greater coil output. You do not need a duraspark.
