Electrical Problem

I have a 1969 Mach 1 CJ RCode. Every once in a while i go to turn the key and no power anywhere. Come back in a few hours or a day, no problem. Not sure how to diagnos this? Any good sites that provide a step by step process for idiots?
Thanks,
Charlie
PS this is keeping me from driving my car for fear it wont start when i want to come home, a real pain.
