427 FE balancing question.

I purchased a 427 side oiler long block. The guy I bought it from told me it was punched and stroked but didn't have many details. He gave me a crank spacer with a counterweight on it and said I had to have it. Do 427's have counterweights? I thought they were internally balanced. I put a 0 balance flywheel and harmonic balancer on it also. I am now concerned that they might have put a 428 crank in it which I believe is externally balanced. Did they use a counterweighted spacers on a 428? Not knowing exactly what I have, I think I am going to tear it down and have it balanced to be sure. I hate to, it really runs strong in my 67 fastback.
