That figures....your shop either doesn't know how to do as Royce suggests, or else wants the $ for a complete job. It is possible the balance won't be "exactly" the same once you find a shop to do it, but the difference should be negligble. Interstingly Smokey Yunick wasn't a big fan of precision balancing as he claims so much oil is being whipped around with the crank, the balance gets "off" anyways. All I can say, is that after balancing, my 428 can idle at 500 rpm....smooth as silk....and that's with a decent cam, headers and twin holley's on it. Seems to me that's a good indication of balancing. Mind you, I do set the idle at 750 for my standard transmission. |
