No, you don't need the vacuum advance on your car but you will probably lose a couple of mpg by losing it and if your fuel costs in Oz are anything like here in the UK, it's a worry. Try to get a decent fast curve in the new distributor if it hasn't already got one and the mpg loss will be minimised as well as maximising performance. HTH
