Are you sure that the covers are absolutely flat? Did you put a small dab of silicone on the intake/head union, both front and back, on both sides of the engine? They rarely meet in a level union. Thirdly, is the head gasket sticking up and cutting into the gasket?
I speak from experience. I too had a hard time getting my '67 GT500 to stop leaking. And, yes, kep tightening them...........a very little at a time. Overtightening will worsen the problem. Good luck. E mail me if you need further help. Good luck. Be patient. Having straight covers is an absolute must. If you did not check them, they are probably warped.
