Reason for smallblocks in NASCAR |

The ONLY reason they went to smallblock engines in NASCAR is that at the time NASCAR felt the cars were going too fast! They made the rule change that mandated a 355cui limit, and it took the racing teams nearly twenty years to once again reach the speeds they were running in late 60s and early 70s. Same thing in ProStock,NHRA had a 370cui limit and for a while all you saw was smallblocks until people like Glidden and Reyer/Morrison worked out the details on destroking bigblocks and then, bye bye smallblock, and we haven't seen them since. I have no doubt if put a 427 s/o motor in one of these new slippery Nascar stockcar bodies they would put a serious on the precious Windsor/Cleveland mutant! |
