RE: If the Flywheel or flexplate is still attache

Mr Shoe covered the VINS and the only other thing I can add are if the flywheel or flexplate are still attached. 410/428 engines take the same crank and are externally balanced, theirfore the flywheel is noticeable different. (Thicker and has the balance weight) from a 352/390 flywheel.
The flexplate or flywheel for a 428 or 410 is very expensive and if not included will drive the costs way up for these engines.
A mismatch of flywheels or flexplate will be devastating. I noted this when junk yard hopping. I can upon a 72 F100 that I noticed a 428 Merc breather cover laying in the back of the bed with alot of other junk. I popped the hood and the engine was compete. With little to go on other than the breather cover in the bed I popped the dust cover off and it had a 390 type flywheel. I also noticed that a connecting rod came through the pan and looked like a bomb when off in the lower end. I figured that the dude that swapped the engine out probably didn't spend the money for the correct flywheel or didn't know and stuck the 390 flywheel on causing a severe balancing problem and blew the bottom end out. I still got the heads, which were 67 high compression, the intake and the carb. for 35 bucks. Too bad the block was ruined.
