Having experienced oil flowing away from the pick-up in the oil pan on FE's during hard acceleration, I have taken to adding a trap door at the top of the rise above the deep part of the pan. It is simple to make out of what is called "piano hinge" purchased at any hardware store. Position it so that it swings one way as oil returns to the sump, but will not swing the other way under acceleration. Spot welding it into a stock depth pan works great especially on a high point restored musclecar. No one but you ever knows it is there.
