Basically, if you've done the standard oiling mods: 1. drill the passage from the pump to the filter pad 2. use the modern filter adapter (larger holes) 3. restrict oil to the heads 4. open the holes at the main bearings 5. HV oil pump (or HV/HP) 6. windage tray
then use a good pan and maybe some mods (trap doors, baffles...) and some have overfilled the stock pan by 1 quart. These have kept FE running hard for many years.
Keep in mind that the FE has powered cars and trucks for years without any mods at all. the mods are for longer life and hard running. I don't consider the FE oiling system touchy, I just consider the stock setup as needing a little help. |
