Isn't the gear that drives the distributor connected to the oil pump? Could that relationship have something to do with your oil leakage?
I'll check my intake (which is off right now) to see if it has a cut like that. I have a 68' 390 2V. But I was under the impression that tin pan just kept the temprature directly under the carburator down.
