C8AE-H heads are 70cc's (standard passenger car or truck heads). If they have never been milled or surfaced (which is very unlikely) you can cut them about 45 thousandth's max. That would be a strait cut,not an angle cut. Mock up the engine and find out what the deck clearence is with the pistons at top dead center. For example: if the pistons are .015" in the holes, then have the block surfaced (decked) to .015" for a "zero deck clearence". Then have the heads cut about .015-.020" to get the compression up where you want it. Its best to install only 4 pistons on the end cylinders (without the rings on them) and get the readings of all four at top dead center. Find out what the differences are from front to rear on both banks and have the machine shop bring the decks as close as possible to zero. This way,you wont have to cut the heads to the max the very first time!
