The dumbell lifters weigh 3 times as much as the deep seat shotgun shell lifters. The stock 1958 Ford pushrods were not strong. The aftermarket pushrods were fine for the 8,000 rpm range. The best were the Sig Erson "ellipsoidal" style. Speaking of lifters I used to run "Skelcast" stye by Engle, they were sure unusual. I have had the dumbell style break, though I contribute this to valve float more than anything else. Shotgun shell style is the best in my opinion, for there is nothing to go wrong and they have the most support around the lifter bore.
