All of the '68 and newer Mustangs and Comet sized cars that I have seen had shock tower braces where the upper control arms bolt through them. The 427/428 cars had a more substantial reinforcement due to the added torque stress. Most if not all of the '67 Mustangs/Shelbys had no additional bracing in the tower area and they often suffered severe stress cracks at or just above the upper control arm mounting point. I believe the problem was so frequent that Ford retrofitted braces/plates in that area after the problem was found in the car, usually when it wouldn't hold an alignment.
You can put a big block into a car not prepped for it but you will need to keep a close eye on the potential trouble spots and this is a major one.
I think Carroll Shelby once said "Anything will fit into anything with enough time and money" car wise anyway. |
