Mel, I certainly agree its a good idea to brace the shock towers, and if you look I did say so in the post. As with your other posts, you are right on the money. I have seen and repaired those type of cracks, and they can be bad, even on small block cars. Matter of fact, my 302 AT car had just started when I braced it for the 427.

However, I do point out that the "anything will fit" quote doesnt really apply to this one IMHO. We are talking putting an FE in a body exactly as Ford did, and a body that is designed for the FE, with reproduction parts still available to complete the job.

Everything you said is spot on, reinforce it, but its not a butcher job, and it shouldnt be looked at that way. Its a bolt in swap, maybe not a SBC-type swap, but a bolt in with all factory parts just the same. Ford's later improvements were a learning curve we benefit from now, so we brace and drive off with the FE powered cars for a bit longer.

In my opinion, excepting maybe a sloppy S-code coupe, I'd rather see someone build an FE powered 302 car, experiment to his last breath and run the heck out it, save the CJ's, Bosses and Shelbys for resto or at least someone with more experience.

Bottom line, its not a tough swap, but you just need the right parts, most (not all) readily available
