If you can't afford a 428 you might want to consider the possibility of boring a 390 oversize .080 to 4.130" and try to get a 428 crankshaft from your boss as well as a set of good used pistons and build a low buck 428. I would not suggest tis if you are planning to do a lot of racing and you may not be able to overbore again. Some shops have sonic testers to verify that your block will accept an .080 oversize.
