Yes, spray them down with EasyOff oven cleaner. The lye does wonders at stripping grease, oil, paint, skin and just about anything else it comes into contact with. Another strip trick is to put them in a small water-filled pan and pour in a can of Drano. The preferred method still, though, is to mechanically strip them with a blast media.
