You're right Brett. A ratio of 2.75 is too high. Your 390 is a 2V right? I just recently learned on this forum that the MX(FMX)cruisomatic tranny was still used in low performance apps through '69. Never personally seen such but I believe it now. Many FE(my vote goes with Ford Edsel) apps got the better C6 trans. However, your MX cruiso should be fine with a 3.25 or 3.50 ratio. Because you have the nine inch, you can do any gear you want but if you're not going to improve the engine and trans, why go to anything lower than 3.50? If you do build that 390 you probably will want to find a C6 and make the switch. You will need the C6 strength and durability. You have to sink a lot of money into a Cruiso to make it equal a C6.
