C1AE-B is a confusing number when it comes to connecting rods. So I did some research in my "library". That meant a Ford parts book, a Federal-Mogul Machinist Manual, the Nov. '59 issue of Hot Rod Magazine covering the road test on the 1960 352/360 hipo, and the Dec. '60 issue of Hot Rod with the road test on the 1961 390/375 hipo.

The C1AE-B "forging" number on a rod means that it is a 390 rod first used in 1961 on both the standard 390 and the "special" 390 (375 hipo). According to Hot Rod, the difference was the "special" 390 got a little more clearance when machined.

The confusion lies in the fact that the PART number on a 352 rod is C1AE-6200-B. The forging number is C1AE-A. But that started in 1961. What was the forging number on the 1960 352/360 hipo rod? The only forging number I can find for a pre-1961 352 is EDC which started in 1958. According to Hot Rod magazine, the 352 hipo used a standard 352 rod that was machined for more clearance.

I had better stop now because I am confusing myself.
