Always lookin' to learn. So I went out this evening and gathered up a few old flexplates nicely stored in the back of FE parts storage unit #2(or is it #1?), '67 Big Merc Wagon. The only standard FE non 428 flexplates I have out in the open and still not sandwiched betwixed old cruisos/engines are '65 later. And I have two used '28 plates, one NOS. So I took one of the old 390 plates that came from a '65 Merc 390/cruiso combo. Held it up to one of the old 428 plates. Other than the obvious visual differences that the 428 plate offers, i.e., wagon wheel style cutouts and external weights, there was no visual differences in the flange holes alignment.

The '64 & earlier flexplates/flywheels definitely have a different ring gear tooth count.

But my mind is totally open to further information and instruction.
