Allright - I got the scoop....My friend has a pal who is a Mechanic at the Ford house in Fort Worth....
As everyone has said early models up to 1978 are internal .....
1980-95 are external.....
In 1979 however they can be both depending on the build number of your vehicle.
If your 460 has a 2Y crank it is internally balanced.
At the switchover point, the new external 3Y crank was introduced.
So everyone remember if you are having vibration problems...and you have a D9TE Block, you prolly need a damper (not diaper-he-he) change....
