There was a good way to tell if the engine was an unmolested original. You need to remove the flywheel dust plate and look for a weight on the flywheel on auto trans cars. The harmonic balancer for any 428CJ is the same as that for a 390.

The real story though is that all these motors are 32 years old or more in the case of 428's and almost anything can be put together to look like a 428. You really have to check bore and stroke to know FOR SURE.
