I agree it's the oil pump shaft. I pulled my distributor to set my timing (vac advance wouldn't let me turn the housing far enough) and spent the next hour moving it in minute increments trying to get that damn shaft to line up again. Problem with the Fords is that the distributor gear starts to engage before the pump drive, unlike, for instance, the Internationals I had, which were driven just by a slot (no special priming tool other than a screwdriver) that was deep enough to accept the shaft, then you could put the rotor anywhere you want before engaging the distributor gear since you already had it lined up in the oil pump. By the way, I didn't install a new seal or anything so I know that wasn't it. D |
