Wonder why Interceptor had a different tappet set?

I've set my 427 marine (Chris Craft) valves religiously to the CC spec, but now that I see Interceptor has a much wider clearance, I'm wondering if I should be "erring on the wider setting".

I'm wondering if CC set the valves a bit tighter to keep em quite, and Interceptor may have just gone with whatever spec made them run best?

Would the .030 Intercepter spec setting be too much, and I'm wondering if it is a mistake in the publication
