I just installed my 390 in my 68 Mustang convertible with AC, power steering and automatic. I bought the tri-y headers from FPA (http://www.fordpowertrain.com). They hug the block very closely and are not lower than the oil pan or transmission. Despite assurances from the seller, I was unable to reinstall the engine with the headers already bolted up and with the transmission in. After some trial and error, I got them in. Basically, I laid them in the engine bay and brought the engine down to them. It wasn't easy, and tolerances are very close, but I was successful.
