I too have heard stories about Ford using whatever they had at the time. My 68 GT 390 Fastback was built on 1-12-68. Its got the same chrome valve covers as the 67 Fairlanes. Smooth and without the powered by ford script. They have ribs in the side only. I found this to be strange, but have since found out that Mustangs had these until 2-15-68. I'm probably completely wrong on this but that's my story.
