RE: 71E is not the correct date code,

My mechanic noiw tells me that the Engine date code is 7L1. He had to use a mirror to see it. This is the rasied letters on the oil filter stem.
Does this code appear to be correct? Is it Nov. 1, 1967? Would they use this block on a 1968 or 1969 390?
