Installing new lifters on an old cam is fine. You can't go the other way, though. You should not have to pre-fill the lifters. Most lifter sets advise against this. If you pre-fill the lifters, the pluger will be fully extended and it may take a bit of cranking to get the lifters bled down to the point the engine will start. You only have to concern yourself with preload adjustment if you have adjustable rockers.
Just put a bit of moly lube on the lifter base and drop 'em in the bores. |
