| James a block with a casting #C4AE-A does fall into the group of 427 casting #s but that # was also used on 390s that had the bosses for crossbolts.If you can't take the heads off to check the bore size then look for these external identifiers 1.crossbolts above pan rail 2.extra oil pressure relief valve in back of block above rear cam soft plug 3.Lack of lifter oil galleys in back of block 4.There will be the letters HP cast into the block(as well as stamped in the area you mentioned)in at least one spot usually in multiple spots.If all of these are not present I would be leery of it because the C4AE block is capable of recieving crossbolt mains even if it started out as a 352 or 390.The lack of lifter galleys and the extra oil relief valve are good indicators of a 427 block though,I have seen one 406 service block that was a C4AE & had all the above items but it may have been a 427 block machined with 406 bores.The C4AE -6090-G heads are 390 heads,the casting #s are sometimes almost impossible to read.Neither of the carbs are correct 427 carbs.Matched dual quad carbs will typically have consecutive list #s.The casting date you gave sounds a little late for a C4AE block but you never know what Ford would do.Hpoe this helps. |
