A friend pulled a running 428 out of a '67 Mercury. It was a standard bore C6ME block. He had it sonic checked and it had cylinder thrust side walls of .090" in several cylinders. It had the 428 in the water jacket too. A 3/16" drill bit fit loose between all the bores.
Casting numbers on FE blocks are meaningless.
